C\u2019\u00e9tait l\u2019une des &#8220;Bonnes nouvelles&#8221; annonc\u00e9es la semaine derni\u00e8re par Yolaine de la Bigne dans sa chronique quotidienne optimiste sur Europe 1.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">L&#8217;histoire vaut sa travers\u00e9e de l&#8217;Atlantique : Il \u00e9tait une fois au milieu des flots au large de l\u2019Irlande, un \u00eelot perdu, battu par les vents, Tory Island. 200 habitants s&#8217;accrochaient \u00e0 ce rocher long de 5 km et large de 600 m\u00e8tres, luttant pour leur survie, sans eau courante, ni \u00e9lectricit\u00e9, ni \u00e9coles, ni services publics, pestant contre le gouvernement irlandais qui r\u00eavait de les voir abandonner leur \u00eele pour rejoindre des terres moins inhospitali\u00e8res. Jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 ce jour de 1965 o\u00f9 James Dixon (1887-1970), un peintre autodidacte audacieux, vint y poser son chevalet, sous l&#8217;oeil intrigu\u00e9 des p\u00eacheurs locaux. D\u00e9\u00e7u du r\u00e9sultat, l&#8217;un d&#8217;entre eux pris le pari de faire mieux que le peintre. Cap ! Lui r\u00e9pondit l&#8217;artiste. Et c&#8217;est ainsi que naquit l&#8217;une des \u00e9coles d&#8217;art na\u00eff les plus influentes et prolixes du XXe si\u00e8cle, l&#8217;\u00e9cole de Tory Island ! Depuis les ann\u00e9es 70, les galeries se sont multipli\u00e9es sur place, les touristes affluent&#8230; et l&#8217;\u00eele revit, avec eau, \u00e9lectricit\u00e9, \u00e9cole et tutti quanti !
