Cent ans plus tard, son h\u00e9ritage artistique fascine toujours autant les collectionneurs du monde entier. Seungyong Chang, pr\u00e9sident du Modigliani Institute Korea, analyse aujourd&#8217;hui la signature visuelle unique du ma\u00eetre italien. L&#8217;artiste est c\u00e9l\u00e8bre pour ses visages allong\u00e9s aux traits m\u00e9lancoliques. Ses personnages arborent souvent des yeux sans pupilles qui interrogent le spectateur. Ce style iconique puise ses racines dans un m\u00e9lange d&#8217;influences classiques et primitives. Modigliani arrive \u00e0 Paris en 1906 et sa vie change radicalement. Il rencontre alors le sculpteur Constantin Brancusi qui lui transmet le go\u00fbt de la forme pure.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p data-path-to-node=\"2\">L&#8217;artiste v\u00e9nitien consid\u00e8re le bonheur comme un ange au visage grave. Pour repr\u00e9senter la femme id\u00e9ale, il s&#8217;inspire des formes longilignes de la Gr\u00e8ce antique. Les masques africains marquent aussi durablement son \u0153uvre graphique et sculpt\u00e9e. Ses personnages poss\u00e8dent des yeux en amande inspir\u00e9s du mot grec amugdale. Cette forme devient une v\u00e9ritable signature visuelle synonyme de plaisir cr\u00e9atif. Le peintre atteint le sommet de son art en 1917 avec sa c\u00e9l\u00e8bre Femme assise \u00e0 la robe bleue. Cette ann\u00e9e-l\u00e0 marque pourtant un scandale majeur lors de son exposition chez Berthe Weill. La police demande le retrait de quatre nus jug\u00e9s ind\u00e9cents \u00e0 cause de leur r\u00e9alisme.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:post-content -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:image {\"align\":\"left\",\"id\":1956,\"sizeSlug\":\"large\"} -->\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1956\" src=\"https:\/\/great-artmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Femme-assise-%C3%A0-la-robe-bleue-Amedeo-Modigliani.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\r\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"3\">La symbolique complexe des yeux dans l&#8217;\u0153uvre moderne<\/h3>\r\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\">L&#8217;\u00e9volution artistique de Modigliani se divise en trois phases distinctes selon Seungyong Chang. La premi\u00e8re p\u00e9riode conserve les traces de sa formation classique en Italie. \u00c0 son arriv\u00e9e dans la capitale fran\u00e7aise, son pinceau commence \u00e0 s&#8217;\u00e9loigner du r\u00e9alisme pur. Les yeux deviennent progressivement flous ou totalement noirs d\u00e8s l&#8217;ann\u00e9e 1908. Le passage \u00e0 la sculpture en 1909 accentue cet effet de vide min\u00e9ral. Les yeux sans pupilles s&#8217;imposent d\u00e9finitivement dans ses toiles \u00e0 partir de 1912. En 1915, il introduit une asym\u00e9trie troublante avec une pupille unique dans un seul \u0153il.<\/p>\r\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\">Le style de Modigliani s&#8217;affirme encore plus apr\u00e8s sa rencontre avec Jeanne H\u00e9buterne en 1917. Le peintre adapte le regard de ses mod\u00e8les selon son degr\u00e9 d&#8217;intimit\u00e9 avec eux. Un \u0153il vide associ\u00e9 \u00e0 une pupille sugg\u00e8re une double vision du monde. Le personnage regarde l&#8217;ext\u00e9rieur d&#8217;un c\u00f4t\u00e9 et r\u00e9fl\u00e9chit sur lui-m\u00eame de l&#8217;autre. Lorsque les deux yeux sont noirs, l&#8217;artiste exprime une profonde sympathie partag\u00e9e avec son sujet. Les regards totalement vides t\u00e9moignent parfois d&#8217;une difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 saisir la complexit\u00e9 psychologique du mod\u00e8le. Dans ce cas, la couleur des yeux rejoint souvent celle du fond de la toile.
