Pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer cet artiste de l&#8217;imaginaire, le mus\u00e9e de Pont-Aven lui consacre une exposition majeure intitul\u00e9e &#8220;Corneille : un Cobra dans le sillage de Gauguin&#8221;, visible jusqu&#8217;au 24 mai 2020. Un hommage vibrant \u00e0 celui qui affirmait : \u00ab De ma vie, j&#8217;en ai fait une belle journ\u00e9e color\u00e9e. \u00bb<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:post-content -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:image {\"align\":\"left\",\"id\":1965,\"width\":393,\"height\":316,\"sizeSlug\":\"large\",\"tdCaptionAlign\":\"https:\/\/great-artmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/corneille-scaled-1.jpg\"} \/-->\r\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"4\">L&#8217;\u00e9veil d&#8217;un esprit libre durant les ann\u00e9es de guerre<\/h2>\r\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\">N\u00e9 Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo \u00e0 Li\u00e8ge en 1922, Corneille entame sa formation \u00e0 l&#8217;Acad\u00e9mie des Beaux-Arts d&#8217;Amsterdam en 1943. En plein conflit mondial, il choisit d&#8217;abandonner le cursus classique pour exp\u00e9rimenter des techniques plus libres. Malgr\u00e9 l&#8217;obscurit\u00e9 de l&#8217;\u00e9poque, il continue de peindre avec acharnement. \u00c0 la Lib\u00e9ration, il embrasse cette libert\u00e9 retrouv\u00e9e et part \u00e0 la rencontre du monde. En 1947, lors d&#8217;une exposition \u00e0 Budapest, il d\u00e9couvre l&#8217;\u0153uvre de Paul Klee, une rencontre esth\u00e9tique qui marquera durablement son approche de la cr\u00e9ation.<\/p>\r\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"6\">La r\u00e9volution CoBrA et la qu\u00eate de l&#8217;ailleurs<\/h2>\r\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">Le 8 novembre 1948, Corneille cofonde le groupe CoBrA au caf\u00e9 Notre-Dame \u00e0 Paris. Ce mouvement, r\u00e9unissant des artistes de Copenhague, Bruxelles et Amsterdam, rejette le rationalisme et l&#8217;esth\u00e9tisme formel. Comme l&#8217;\u00e9crit Michel Ragon, <b data-path-to-node=\"7\" data-index-in-node=\"235\">\u00ab CoBrA est moins une tendance qu\u2019une occasion de rencontres heureuses \u00bb<\/b>. Ensemble, ces cr\u00e9ateurs pr\u00f4nent une spontan\u00e9it\u00e9 totale, s&#8217;inspirant des dessins d&#8217;enfants et de l&#8217;art primitif. Bien que le collectif se dissolve d\u00e8s 1951, Corneille en garde l&#8217;\u00e9tat d&#8217;esprit toute sa vie, refusant tout cloisonnement entre les disciplines.<\/p>\r\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"8\">Un dialogue spirituel entre Pont-Aven et l&#8217;exotisme<\/h2>\r\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">Le commissaire de l&#8217;exposition actuelle, Victor Vanoosten, a r\u00e9uni soixante-quatorze \u0153uvres pour illustrer le lien entre Corneille et Paul Gauguin. <b data-path-to-node=\"9\" data-index-in-node=\"148\">\u00ab Le fil rouge de l\u2019exposition est la qu\u00eate de l\u2019ailleurs \u00bb<\/b>, explique-t-il. Cette soif d&#8217;\u00e9vasion a men\u00e9 l&#8217;artiste du d\u00e9sert du Hoggar en Alg\u00e9rie aux paysages luxuriants d&#8217;Asie et d&#8217;Am\u00e9rique latine. \u00c0 l&#8217;instar de Gauguin, Corneille voue un culte \u00e0 la couleur pure, notamment au jaune et au rouge vermillon. Sa p\u00e9riode &#8220;g\u00e9ologique&#8221; laisse place, d\u00e8s les ann\u00e9es 1960, \u00e0 un retour \u00e0 la figuration peupl\u00e9e de femmes-terres et d&#8217;oiseaux-nomades.<\/p>\r\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"10\">L&#8217;h\u00e9ritage lumineux d&#8217;un \u00e9ternel voyageur<\/h2>\r\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\">Install\u00e9 dans le Val d&#8217;Oise \u00e0 la fin de sa vie, Corneille s&#8217;est laiss\u00e9 impr\u00e9gner par la lumi\u00e8re des champs, affirmant que <b data-path-to-node=\"11\" data-index-in-node=\"122\">\u00ab la lumi\u00e8re pour un peintre, c\u2019est le bonheur \u00bb<\/b>. Artiste pluridisciplinaire, il a d\u00e9clin\u00e9 son univers sur tous les supports : c\u00e9ramique, bijoux, gravures et m\u00eame sur un tramway d&#8217;Amsterdam. Son \u00e9pouse, Natacha van Beverloo, le d\u00e9crivait comme un homme aux semelles de vent avec toujours un pied dans le bac \u00e0 sable.
