Cette monographie explore ses techniques r\u00e9volutionnaires, de ses c\u00e9l\u00e8bres \u00ab rayogrammes \u00bb \u00e0 ses clich\u00e9s iconiques comme \u00ab Noire et blanche \u00bb ou \u00ab Violon d&#8217;Ingres \u00bb, r\u00e9alis\u00e9s avec sa muse Kiki de Montparnasse.<\/b><\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"5\">L&#8217;exposition \u00e9v\u00e9nement de l&#8217;\u00e9t\u00e9 au Palais Lumi\u00e8re d&#8217;\u00c9vian<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">Le Palais Lumi\u00e8re d\u2019\u00c9vian-les-Bains propose une immersion dans l&#8217;univers de Man Ray. C&#8217;est pourquoi, du 1er juillet au 5 novembre, cette grande r\u00e9trospective rassemble pr\u00e8s de cinq cents \u0153uvres. Le parcours met l\u2019accent sur la pluralit\u00e9 des m\u00e9diums de ce cr\u00e9ateur insatiable. De plus, le plasticien am\u00e9ricain a laiss\u00e9 derri\u00e8re lui pr\u00e8s de 40 000 cr\u00e9ations. L&#8217;\u00e9v\u00e9nement de Haute-Savoie retrace ainsi un demi-si\u00e8cle de recherches formelles et d\u2019avant-garde.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"7\">L&#8217;arriv\u00e9e de l&#8217;artiste am\u00e9ricain dans le Paris des Ann\u00e9es Folles<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\">Dans les ann\u00e9es 1920, Paris vit au rythme de la f\u00eate et de la cr\u00e9ation. La capitale des arts attire en effet les talents du monde entier. L\u2019Am\u00e9ricain Emmanuel Radnitzky fait partie de ce voyage. N\u00e9 dans une famille immigr\u00e9e de Russie, l&#8217;artiste adopte le pseudonyme de Man Ray \u00e0 New York pour fuir l&#8217;antis\u00e9mitisme. Ensuite, sous l\u2019influence de son ami Marcel Duchamp, il s&#8217;installe en France en 1921. Son choix se porte sur le quartier anim\u00e9 de Montparnasse pour y \u00e9tablir son atelier.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"9\">Kiki de Montparnasse ou la naissance d&#8217;une ic\u00f4ne surr\u00e9aliste<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">C\u2019est l\u00e0 que le photographe rencontre la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre Alice Prin. Celle que tout le monde appelle \u00ab Kiki de Montparnasse \u00bb devient instantan\u00e9ment son amante et sa muse. Au d\u00e9part, Man Ray commence la photographie par d\u00e9pit en tant que plasticien. Il n&#8217;\u00e9tait pas satisfait des clich\u00e9s de ses propres peintures. Pourtant, il comprend rapidement que la technique peut \u00eatre d\u00e9tourn\u00e9e de fa\u00e7on cr\u00e9ative. Il joue alors avec le cadrage, la lumi\u00e8re et les contrastes pour inventer son style.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"11\">Les secrets de fabrication du chef-d&#8217;\u0153uvre Violon d&#8217;Ingres<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\">Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 cette audace, Man Ray r\u00e9alise son premier portrait photographique original en 1924. Intitul\u00e9e \u00ab Violon d\u2019Ingres \u00bb, l&#8217;\u0153uvre contribue imm\u00e9diatement \u00e0 sa notori\u00e9t\u00e9 internationale. Kiki de Montparnasse y appara\u00eet nue, photographi\u00e9e de dos. Par la suite, l&#8217;artiste dessine les ou\u00efes d\u2019un violon au creux de ses reins. La mod\u00e8le a d&#8217;abord h\u00e9sit\u00e9 \u00e0 poser pour ce clich\u00e9. Cependant, malgr\u00e9 sa peur d&#8217;une r\u00e9alit\u00e9 trop crue, elle poursuivra activement cette collaboration.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"13\">L&#8217;histoire derri\u00e8re le c\u00e9l\u00e8bre clich\u00e9 Noire et blanche<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\">Le dialogue entre ombre et lumi\u00e8re se prolonge ensuite en 1926. Man Ray r\u00e9alise alors la photographie \u00ab Noire et blanche \u00bb. Ce clich\u00e9 para\u00eet pour la premi\u00e8re fois dans l\u2019\u00e9dition fran\u00e7aise du magazine Vogue. \u00c0 l&#8217;\u00e9poque, le directeur artistique George Sakier pousse le photographe \u00e0 innover. L&#8217;artiste associe le visage de sa muse avec un masque traditionnel baoul\u00e9 de C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire. Les deux ovales parfaits entrent en r\u00e9sonance. C&#8217;est ainsi que cette \u0153uvre devient un embl\u00e8me fort du post-colonialisme.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"15\">La r\u00e9volution des rayogrammes et la po\u00e9sie d&#8217;\u00c9luard<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16\">Les vers de Paul \u00c9luard r\u00e9sument parfaitement l&#8217;esth\u00e9tique du photographe am\u00e9ricain. L&#8217;\u00e9crivain \u00e9voquait d\u00e9j\u00e0 des silhouettes de femmes suspendues entre ombre et lumi\u00e8re. De fait, Man Ray capture des instants magiques, comme des gants blancs saisis au vol. L&#8217;exposition d&#8217;\u00c9vian valorise notamment ses c\u00e9l\u00e8bres \u00ab rayogrammes \u00bb. Ces clich\u00e9s uniques s&#8217;obtiennent sans appareil photo. Effectivement, l&#8217;artiste posait directement un objet entre le papier sensible et la source lumineuse.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"17\">Pourquoi Man Ray reste le ma\u00eetre incontest\u00e9 des lumi\u00e8res<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"18\">Man Ray r\u00e9sumait son art par une formule rest\u00e9e c\u00e9l\u00e8bre. Il expliquait photographier ce qu\u2019il ne d\u00e9sirait pas peindre, et peindre ce qu&#8217;il ne pouvait pas photographier. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019entremise de Kiki de Montparnasse, il est devenu la figure de proue de l\u2019avant-garde parisienne.
