Son mat\u00e9riau de pr\u00e9dilection : les perles de verre souffl\u00e9 et le fer forg\u00e9. Mais son \u0153uvre est bien plus foisonnante. J\u2019ai rencontr\u00e9 hier au caf\u00e9 Beaubourg Jean-Michel Othoniel, un artiste dont la r\u00e9putation ne cesse de grandir.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"media-174992\" style=\"border-width: 0; float: right; margin: 0.2em 0 1.4em 0.7em;\" src=\"https:\/\/great-artmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/01\/01\/575057790.jpg\" alt=\"timbre-kiosque-othoniel.jpg\" name=\"media-174992\" \/>Alexia Gugg\u00e9mos : Vous \u00eates l\u2019un des artistes fran\u00e7ais les plus prometteurs et pourtant le grand public vous conna\u00eet encore peu. Pourquoi ?<\/strong><br \/>\nJean-Michel Othoniel : Il est vrai que l\u2019on me conna\u00eet essentiellement pour le \u00ab Kiosque des noctambules \u00bb, l\u2019\u0153uvre que j\u2019ai r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en 2000 pour la station de m\u00e9tro Palais-Royal \u00e0 Paris : deux coupoles serties de perles de verre multicolores. Les passionn\u00e9s pourront d\u2019ailleurs d\u00e8s cette semaine se procurer le timbre comm\u00e9moratif\u2026 J\u2019ai surtout \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, \u00e0 New-York, Miami, Los Angeles, New Delhi, Istanbul, S\u00e9oul\u2026 Mais j\u2019ai aussi particip\u00e9 \u00e0 des rencontres importantes en France comme \u00ab F\u00e9minin-Masculin \u00bb au Centre Pompidou en 1996 ou \u00ab Contrepoint \u00bb au Mus\u00e9e du Louvre o\u00f9 j\u2019ai investi les salles m\u00e9sopotamiennes avec une \u00ab Rivi\u00e8re blanche \u00bb aux perles constell\u00e9es de pointes de seins (photo ci-dessous).<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"media-175493\" style=\"border-width: 0; float: left; margin: 0.2em 1.4em 0.7em 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/great-artmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/01\/02\/1281871718.jpg\" alt=\"othoniel-riviere-blanche.jpg\" name=\"media-175493\" \/>Vous revenez au Centre Pompidou du 2 mars au 23 mai 2011 avec une exposition qui s\u2019\u00e9tend sur deux \u00e9tages. Est-ce un tournant pour vous ?<\/strong><br \/>\nC\u2019est un moment tr\u00e8s important ! Il a fallu plus de 3 ans pour r\u00e9unir quelques 80 pi\u00e8ces, dont certaines sont in\u00e9dites. Mon parcours est en marge, d\u2019o\u00f9 le titre de cette exposition, My way. Je reviens aux racines, en pr\u00e9sentant notamment mes premiers travaux sur le soufre pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s \u00e0 Documenta de Cassel en 1993.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Comment est n\u00e9e votre passion d\u2019artiste ?<\/strong><br \/>\nMes premiers chocs esth\u00e9tiques et mon ouverture \u00e0 l\u2019art datent de mon enfance \u00e0 Saint-Etienne o\u00f9 au lyc\u00e9e, la classe enti\u00e8re allait visiter des expositions d\u2019artistes contemporains au mus\u00e9e, comme celles de Tony Cragg ou de Robert Morris. Essentiellement des sculpteurs. Il y avait l\u00e0 un vrai espace de libert\u00e9. C\u2019est cet esprit que j\u2019ai souhait\u00e9 insuffler \u00e0 la galerie des enfants \u00e0 Beaubourg.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"media-174996\" style=\"border-width: 0; float: right; margin: 0.2em 0 1.4em 0.7em;\" src=\"https:\/\/great-artmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/02\/01\/905566882.jpg\" alt=\"othoniel-bateau-des-larmes.jpg\" width=\"203\" height=\"126\" name=\"media-174996\" \/>En quoi consiste ce \u00ab R\u00e9el merveilleux \u00bb que vous proposez aux enfants ?<\/strong><br \/>\nJe l\u2019ai con\u00e7u comme une exp\u00e9rience esth\u00e9tique, une v\u00e9ritable confrontation avec des \u0153uvres : le Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Peau d\u2019\u00e2ne et The Precious Stonewall\u2026 L\u2019atelier peut se poursuivre \u00e0 travers deux livres \u00e0 para\u00eetre en mars : \u00ab Mon petit th\u00e9\u00e2tre de peau d\u2019\u00e2ne \u00bb (Editions courtes et longues), une petite histoire de l\u2019art contemporain racont\u00e9 aux enfants que j\u2019ai co-sign\u00e9 avec Marie Desplechin. Et un livre en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 augment\u00e9e intitul\u00e9 \u00ab Comme \u00e0 l\u2019atelier \u00bb.
