L&#8217;\u0153uvre la plus connue, intitul\u00e9e <i data-path-to-node=\"4,0\" data-index-in-node=\"174\">Max Mara Dog 109<\/i>, met en sc\u00e8ne un chien braque de Weimar portant le mythique manteau camel de la maison de couture. Cette collaboration publicitaire unique fusionne l&#8217;art contemporain, l&#8217;ironie et la haute couture.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"6\">Les origines du mod\u00e8le canin<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">Connaissez-vous cette image publicitaire famili\u00e8re parue en 2010 dans un hebdomadaire fran\u00e7ais ? Elle montre un braque de Weimar au port altier. L&#8217;animal est drap\u00e9 dans un manteau camel impeccable. Cette photo c\u00e9l\u00e8bre est sign\u00e9e William Wegman. On reconna\u00eet imm\u00e9diatement l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9gance sto\u00efque de son mod\u00e8le canin. Pourtant, ce magazine n&#8217;affichait aucun cr\u00e9dit lors de la publication. Il n&#8217;y avait pas m\u00eame une mention du nom de l\u2019artiste. La photo \u00e9tait rel\u00e9gu\u00e9e au rang de simple illustration d\u00e9corative. Elle illustrait un article intitul\u00e9 &#8220;Manteau en majest\u00e9&#8221; qui retra\u00e7ait l\u2019histoire de la marque Max Mara.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\">C\u2019est oublier un peu vite que cette image de 2001 est issue d\u2019une commande bien r\u00e9elle. Cette \u0153uvre s&#8217;intitule officiellement <i data-path-to-node=\"8\" data-index-in-node=\"126\">Max Mara Dog 109<\/i>. La marque italienne est fascin\u00e9e par l\u2019univers visuel d\u00e9cal\u00e9 du photographe am\u00e9ricain. Max Mara sollicite donc Wegman pour glamouriser sa campagne publicitaire. L&#8217;artiste cr\u00e9e alors une s\u00e9rie de clich\u00e9s d\u2019une ironie feutr\u00e9e. Les lecteurs de ce magazine m\u00e9ritaient de savoir la v\u00e9rit\u00e9. Ils avaient sous les yeux bien plus qu\u2019un visuel anonyme. C&#8217;\u00e9tait une v\u00e9ritable \u0153uvre d\u2019art \u00e0 la fois dr\u00f4le, sensible et critique.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"11\">Le style William Wegman : la photographie anthropo-canine<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\">William Wegman na\u00eet en 1943 \u00e0 Holyoke dans le Massachusetts. Il commence \u00e0 travailler avec ses propres chiens dans les ann\u00e9es 1970. Son premier mod\u00e8le s&#8217;appelle Man Ray. Ce nom est un hommage appuy\u00e9 \u00e0 la photographie conceptuelle. Plus tard, Fay Ray et toute une lign\u00e9e de braques de Weimar deviennent ses compagnons de cr\u00e9ation. Sous son objectif, ces chiens prennent la pose dans des postures humaines. Les animaux sont parfois d\u00e9guis\u00e9s avec des v\u00eatements de luxe. Parfois, ils restent nus. Les clich\u00e9s sont toujours empreints d\u2019un certain spleen burlesque.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\">Wegman adore jouer avec les r\u00e9f\u00e9rences culturelles mondiales. Il photographie des chiens philosophes de dos \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re de Caspar David Friedrich. Il cr\u00e9e aussi des compositions plus pop et absurdes. Son \u0153uvre se situe \u00e0 la fronti\u00e8re du comique et du m\u00e9lancolique. Ce travail photographique unique fait rapidement le tour du monde. Les mus\u00e9es les plus prestigieux exposent ses cr\u00e9ations. On retrouve ses \u0153uvres au MoMA de New York, au Centre Pompidou \u00e0 Paris ou \u00e0 la National Gallery de Londres.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"16\">De la photo de mode \u00e0 la peinture contemporaine<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17\">Mais que sait-on de sa peinture ? William Wegman est aussi un peintre dipl\u00f4m\u00e9 de la California State University. Il a \u00e9galement \u00e9tudi\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019University of Illinois. Ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, le cr\u00e9ateur s\u2019\u00e9loigne de la photographie pour revenir \u00e0 ses premi\u00e8res amours picturales. L&#8217;artiste joue d\u00e9sormais avec des supports vintage. Il utilise d\u2019anciennes cartes postales ou des manuels scolaires recycl\u00e9s. Ses toiles m\u00ealent des collages, des textes courts et des motifs abstraits.
