Le photographe fran\u00e7ais Augustin Lignier a voulu comprendre ce comportement. Pour cela, il a men\u00e9 une exp\u00e9rience-performance surprenante avec des rats. Son but \u00e9tait d’analyser comment les plateformes mod\u00e8lent nos habitudes.<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

L’exp\u00e9rience de Skinner : de la cage aux \u00e9crans<\/h3>\n

Le 23 janvier 2024, le New York Times<\/em><\/a>\u00a0a publi\u00e9 un article fascinant. Le sujet pr\u00e9sentait une collection de selfies de rongeurs. Ce projet venait d’Augustin Lignier. L’artiste souhaitait reproduire le protocole du psychologue am\u00e9ricain B.F. Skinner.<\/p>\n

Invent\u00e9 dans les ann\u00e9es 1930, ce test enferme des rongeurs dans une cage sp\u00e9ciale. L’animal doit actionner un petit levier. En \u00e9change, il re\u00e7oit des r\u00e9compenses de mani\u00e8re al\u00e9atoire. Le rongeur devient rapidement d\u00e9pendant de ce bouton. La perspective d\u2019un gain futur l’obs\u00e8de. Parfois, se nourrir devient m\u00eame secondaire. L’animal se retrouve totalement asservi \u00e0 la machine. Lorsque nous actualisons notre fil d\u2019actualit\u00e9, nous cherchons une r\u00e9compense. Ce gain prend la forme d’un like, d’un commentaire ou d’un c\u0153ur. Ces interactions stimulent notre production de dopamine. C’est pourquoi nous retournons sur nos applications de fa\u00e7on compulsive.<\/p>\n

Des rats accros aux selfies et au narcissisme<\/h3>\n

Augustin Lignier s’est inspir\u00e9 de cette obsession moderne pour le selfie. Il a donc con\u00e7u une tour de verre transparente. Face \u00e0 la structure, il a plac\u00e9 un appareil photo. Un bouton d\u00e9clenchait les clich\u00e9s tout en d\u00e9livrant du sucre. L’artiste a install\u00e9 deux rats dans le dispositif. Un \u00e9cran permettait aussi aux animaux de se contempler.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s une phase d\u2019apprentissage, un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne \u00e9trange s’est produit. Les rongeurs semblaient pr\u00e9f\u00e9rer la prise de photo au sucre. Ils ont fini par d\u00e9laisser la nourriture. Pour Augustin Lignier, la conclusion est claire. Ces rats agissent exactement comme les utilisateurs des r\u00e9seaux sociaux. Ils semblent guid\u00e9s par une forme de narcissisme. Le pi\u00e8ge de l’addiction num\u00e9rique se referme sur eux.<\/p>\n

Une \u0153uvre d’art avant d’\u00eatre une science<\/h3>\n

Toutefois, ce projet artistique garde des limites. Les travaux empruntent l\u2019esth\u00e9tique de l\u2019exp\u00e9rience scientifique, mais restent une d\u00e9marche artistique. L’objectif principal est de questionner notre rapport aux m\u00e9dias. \u00c0 ce jour, il est impossible de savoir si l\u2019animal a conscience de sa propre image. N\u00e9anmoins, le miroir tendu \u00e0 notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9 reste saisissant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
