L&#8217;artiste provocateur s\u2019est \u00e9teint en 2024 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 88 ans. Son \u0153uvre, empreinte d\u2019irr\u00e9v\u00e9rence, de questionnement et de po\u00e9sie, a marqu\u00e9 plusieurs g\u00e9n\u00e9rations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>N\u00e9 en 1935 \u00e0 Naples, Ben, comme il aimait \u00eatre appel\u00e9, a grandi entre divers pays avant de s\u2019\u00e9tablir \u00e0 Nice, o\u00f9 il a laiss\u00e9 une empreinte ind\u00e9l\u00e9bile. C\u2019est l\u00e0 qu\u2019il a ouvert sa c\u00e9l\u00e8bre boutique, v\u00e9ritable laboratoire artistique, et qu\u2019il a particip\u00e9 activement au mouvement Fluxus, red\u00e9finissant ce que pouvait \u00eatre l\u2019art.<\/p>\n<h3>Un art de l\u2019id\u00e9e<\/h3>\n<p>Ben \u00e9tait surtout connu pour ses \u00e9critures, des phrases percutantes inscrites sur des tableaux, des murs ou des objets, qui interpellaient, d\u00e9rangeaient et faisaient r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir. Des maximes comme \u00ab Tout est art \u00bb ou \u00ab L\u2019art est inutile \u00bb questionnaient sans cesse la d\u00e9finition m\u00eame de l\u2019art et son rapport au spectateur.<\/p>\n<p>Son approche ne se limitait pas \u00e0 l\u2019esth\u00e9tique. Pour Ben, l\u2019art devait \u00eatre une mani\u00e8re de vivre, de penser, et surtout de provoquer. Il ne craignait ni la controverse, ni l\u2019inconfort. Il s\u2019emparait de tout ce qui l\u2019entourait \u2014 id\u00e9es, objets, mots \u2014 pour en faire mati\u00e8re artistique. Chaque \u0153uvre devenait une invitation \u00e0 regarder le monde autrement.<\/p>\n<h3>L\u2019artiste total<\/h3>\n<p>Ben ne se contentait pas de produire des \u0153uvres, il \u00e9tait une \u0153uvre \u00e0 lui tout seul. Performeur, penseur, \u00e9crivain, il a explor\u00e9 tous les champs de la cr\u00e9ation avec une curiosit\u00e9 insatiable. Ses engagements artistiques, souvent teint\u00e9s d\u2019humour et d\u2019autod\u00e9rision, ont fait de lui une figure incontournable de l\u2019art contemporain. Au-del\u00e0 de ses \u00e9crits c\u00e9l\u00e8bres, Ben \u00e9tait un collectionneur d\u2019id\u00e9es. Il aimait documenter les mouvements artistiques, les classer, les interpr\u00e9ter, parfois avec un esprit critique ac\u00e9r\u00e9. Sa qu\u00eate de v\u00e9rit\u00e9, toujours teint\u00e9e d\u2019une certaine anarchie, l\u2019a rendu unique dans un monde o\u00f9 les codes sont souvent rigides.<\/p>\n<h3>Tableaux-\u00e9critures<\/h3>\n<p>\u00ab Le monde change \u00bb, \u00ab Fermer les yeux \u00bb, \u00ab Tous egos \u00bb\u2026 des titres \u00e9vocateurs qui reprennent ce que Ben a \u00e9crit sur ses tableaux, de cette \u00e9criture blanche sur fond noir qui a fait sa c\u00e9l\u00e9brit\u00e9, comme \u00e9crit \u00e0 la craie sur un tableau d\u2019\u00e9colier. Ben appelle ses petites toiles des \u00ab tableaux-\u00e9critures \u00bb. Il explique : \u00ab C&#8217;est le sens qui compte et non pas le graphisme, la toile est l\u00e0 pour dire une v\u00e9rit\u00e9 : les v\u00e9rit\u00e9s objectives \u00ab ce tableau p\u00e8se 2 kg \u00bb ou les v\u00e9rit\u00e9s subjectives \u00ab je suis inquiet \u00bb.<\/p>\n<h3>Un h\u00e9ritage vivant<\/h3>\n<p>La disparition de Ben Vautier laisse un vide dans le paysage artistique, mais son h\u00e9ritage reste vibrant. Ses \u0153uvres, pr\u00e9sentes dans les plus grandes collections, continueront \u00e0 interpeller, \u00e0 faire sourire, et \u00e0 pousser \u00e0 la r\u00e9flexion. Plus qu\u2019un artiste, il \u00e9tait un \u00e9claireur, rappelant \u00e0 chacun que la libert\u00e9 est au c\u0153ur de toute cr\u00e9ation.<\/p>\n<p>Ben disait : \u00ab On me comprendra apr\u00e8s ma mort. \u00bb Peut-\u00eatre. Mais aujourd\u2019hui, alors que nous c\u00e9l\u00e9brons sa vie et son \u0153uvre, il est \u00e9vident que son art et sa pens\u00e9e resteront une source d\u2019inspiration durable.
