La fondation Louis Vuitton \u00e0 Paris consacre une r\u00e9trospective au Britannique David Hockney. Plus de 400 \u0153uvres retracent 70 ans de cr\u00e9ation. Un accent est port\u00e9 sur les 25 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Le regard du peintre se fait t\u00e9moin de la lumi\u00e8re, et surtout, de la joie de peindre. Jusqu’au 30 ao\u00fbt 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n

La nature normande<\/h3>\n

En s\u2019installant dans le Pays d\u2019Auge normand en 2019, David Hockney entame un nouveau chapitre de son \u0153uvre. Il s\u2019inscrit dans la tradition du paysage anglais, de Constable \u00e0 Turner. Ses grandes frises con\u00e7ues sur iPad, rappellent les Nymph\u00e9as de Monet par leur d\u00e9ploiement immersif et narratif. Dans cette fresque longue de 80 m\u00e8tres, la campagne normande devient le th\u00e9\u00e2tre d\u2019un cycle de m\u00e9tamorphoses. Mais Hockney ne peint pas seulement la nature. Il donne \u00e0 voir le regard qui s\u2019\u00e9veille \u00e0 ses rythmes. Les saisons passent, les motifs \u00e9voluent, mais la peinture reste, comme une mani\u00e8re de capter le vivant dans sa respiration m\u00eame.<\/p>\n

La couleur est vibration<\/h3>\n

Roses satur\u00e9s, verts acides, bleus \u00e9lectriques, jaunes \u00e9clatants\u2026 La palette de David Hockney transpose l\u2019\u00e9motion visuelle. Chaque teinte devient un acte de r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la fadeur, \u00e0 la grisaille, au d\u00e9senchantement. Les bouquets de fleurs, motif intime et r\u00e9current dans son \u0153uvre, condensent cette \u00e9nergie. Peints \u00e0 l\u2019huile, dessin\u00e9s au crayon, compos\u00e9s sur iPad ou sur iPhone. Rien de spectaculaire, mais une attention extr\u00eame \u00e0 la variation. Parfois, les fonds se font neutres pour faire \u00e9clater les masses color\u00e9es. Chaque bouquet devient une recherche sur la perception, la lumi\u00e8re et la composition.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Une nuit color\u00e9e<\/h3>\n

Les paysages nocturnes occupent une place (et une salle) \u00e0 part. Hockney explore une palette plus sourde. Les cieux indigo, les feuillages noirs aux reflets violets, les ombres bleues et les halos lumineux percent l\u2019obscurit\u00e9. Loin du romantisme noir, ses nuits vibrent d\u2019un calme habit\u00e9. Il y a l\u00e0 une po\u00e9sie discr\u00e8te du silence. Un arbre solitaire sous un ciel mauve, une route vide baign\u00e9e d\u2019un halo jaune, une maison faiblement \u00e9clair\u00e9e derri\u00e8re un bosquet. Ce n\u2019est pas la nuit en soi qu\u2019Hockney peint, mais ce qu\u2019elle rend possible. L’artiste renouvelle ici le genre du nocturne sans jamais tomber dans l\u2019abstraction ni le d\u00e9coratif.<\/p>\n

Les ma\u00eetres du pass\u00e9, toujours pr\u00e9sents<\/h3>\n

Hockney n\u2019a jamais reni\u00e9 ses racines. Il revendique l\u2019influence des grands ma\u00eetres. Van Gogh avant tout, dont l\u2019ombre plane sur ses paysages r\u00e9cents. De l\u2019artiste n\u00e9erlandais, il retient la puissance du trait, l\u2019audace des perspectives, la foi dans la nature et surtout cette id\u00e9e que \u00ab\u202fla couleur a une dimension morale\u202f\u00bb. Il dira d\u2019ailleurs : \u00ab\u202fVan Gogh l\u2019a compris mieux que quiconque.\u202f\u00bb Ses filiations sont multiples : la rigueur spatiale de Piero della Francesca, les int\u00e9rieurs silencieux de Vermeer, la libert\u00e9 de Matisse, la fulgurance de Picasso. Hockney regarde, d\u00e9monte, r\u00e9invente. Il ne copie pas, il dialogue. Il engage une conversation visuelle \u00e0 travers les si\u00e8cles avec ces figures tut\u00e9laires, nourrissant son \u0153uvre sans jamais la figer dans un h\u00e9ritage.<\/p>\n
