Confectionn\u00e9 par Nicolas-No\u00ebl Boutet \u00e0 la Manufacture de Versailles, ce sabre de prestige dat\u00e9 des ann\u00e9es 1803-1804 incarne \u00e0 la fois le pouvoir, l\u2019esth\u00e9tique et la propagande imp\u00e9riale.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Un sceptre d\u00e9guis\u00e9<\/h3>\n<p>Offert par Napol\u00e9on \u00e0 Grouchy en 1815, lors des Cent-Jours, l\u2019arme est un sceptre d\u00e9guis\u00e9. Souvent \u00e9clips\u00e9 par les grands noms de l\u2019\u00e9pop\u00e9e napol\u00e9onienne, Grouchy fut pourtant l\u2019un des fid\u00e8les du Consulat \u00e0 l\u2019Empire, nomm\u00e9 mar\u00e9chal juste avant la chute. Lors de son exil aux \u00c9tats-Unis, il confiera le sabre \u00e0 sa s\u0153ur Charlotte F\u00e9licit\u00e9 de Grouchy, \u00e9pouse du philosophe Cabanis. Il scelle ainsi la continuit\u00e9 d\u2019un pan de l\u2019histoire imp\u00e9riale \u00e0 travers la lign\u00e9e familiale.<\/p>\n<h3>Une illustre t\u00eate de M\u00e9duse<\/h3>\n<p>Le sabre marie raffinement et langage du pouvoir. Sa monture de vermeil s\u2019inspire des influences orientales, dite \u00ab \u00e0 la Marengo \u00bb. Un clin d\u2019\u0153il \u00e0 la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre victoire de 1800. La croisi\u00e8re, domin\u00e9e par une t\u00eate de M\u00e9duse coiff\u00e9e du lion de N\u00e9m\u00e9e, encadr\u00e9e de quillons termin\u00e9s par t\u00eates de b\u00e9liers et chiens mythologiques, m\u00eale la brutalit\u00e9 des mythes antiques \u00e0 l\u2019esth\u00e9tique n\u00e9o-classique. La calotte en forme de lion stylis\u00e9 et la triple gourmette compl\u00e8tent un dispositif ostentatoire, fait pour impressionner.<\/p>\n<h3>Lyres, fleurons, \u00e9cailles<\/h3>\n<p>Sign\u00e9e \u00ab Manufacture De Klingenthal Nal Coulaux Fr\u00e8res \u00bb, la lame damas porte les marques du graveur Isch. Les cartouches grav\u00e9s en or figurent Napol\u00e9on \u00e0 cheval, et c\u00e9l\u00e8brent le Premier Consul devenu mythe en action. L\u2019inscription \u00ab NAPOL\u00c9ON BONAPARTE \u00bb d\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9, \u00ab PREMIER CONSUL \u00bb de l\u2019autre, transforme l\u2019arme en manifeste politique. Le fourreau en galuchat gris, prolonge l\u2019excellence de l\u2019ensemble. La chappe porte la signature prestigieuse de Boutet, ma\u00eetre armurier des cours europ\u00e9ennes. Palmettes, t\u00eates de lions, motifs g\u00e9om\u00e9triques et acanthes rappellent l\u2019imaginaire gr\u00e9co-romain cher \u00e0 l\u2019Empire.<\/p>\n<h3>Expertis\u00e9 par Bertrand Malvaux<\/h3>\n<p>Pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 par l\u2019expert Bertrand Malvaux, sp\u00e9cialiste des armes historiques, le sabre avait \u00e9t\u00e9 estim\u00e9 \u00e0 un million d\u2019euros. Il a finalement \u00e9t\u00e9 adjug\u00e9 \u00e0 4,7 millions d\u2019euros \u00e0 Drouot. Ce montant refl\u00e8te la valeur patrimoniale de l\u2019objet. Cette vente signe l\u2019un des plus hauts prix jamais atteints pour une arme imp\u00e9riale. Objet de guerre, mais aussi d\u2019art et de transmission, ce sabre renvoie aux alliances entre cr\u00e9ation, politique et l\u00e9gende. Dans un moment o\u00f9 les objets imp\u00e9riaux suscitent autant de fascination que d\u2019interrogations sur l\u2019usage m\u00e9moriel, cette adjudication souligne combien le sabre est la mat\u00e9rialisation d\u2019un imaginaire toujours vif.
