Elle sera un jour la Biblioth\u00e8que des \u00c9tats-Unis d\u2019Europe. \u00bb, a t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Victor Hugo, visionnaire<\/h3>\n<p>\u00c0 travers manuscrits, codicilles et documents familiaux, on y (re)d\u00e9couvre un Hugo d\u00e9miurge. Avant m\u00eame sa mort, il a tenu \u00e0 orchestrer lui-m\u00eame son entr\u00e9e dans la post\u00e9rit\u00e9. \u00c0 parcourir ces feuillets, o\u00f9 l\u2019auteur des <em>Mis\u00e9rables<\/em> r\u00e8gle jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la couleur de son corbillard, c\u2019est une autre dimension qui s\u2019impose. Il est un cr\u00e9ateur total. L\u2019\u00e9criture et le dessin se rel\u00e8vent d\u2019un m\u00eame souffle. Car si Hugo a b\u00e2ti sa gloire sur la langue, il a aussi peint avec l\u2019encre. Po\u00e8te, romancier, dramaturge, il \u00e9tait aussi dessinateur, calligraphe, d\u00e9corateur. Il faisait du papier un champ d\u2019exp\u00e9rimentation absolu. Ses cinq testaments, r\u00e9dig\u00e9s entre 1864 et 1881, t\u00e9moignent de cette exigence. Il a organis\u00e9 la transmission de son \u0153uvre litt\u00e9raire, mais aussi pr\u00e9serv\u00e9 ses manuscrits et dessins. Ceux-ci ont en effet l\u00e9gu\u00e9s \u00e0 la Biblioth\u00e8que nationale. Hugo se percevait comme un cr\u00e9ateur soucieux d\u2019unir \u00e0 jamais le verbe et la vision.<\/p>\n<h3><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5475 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/great-artmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/post-scriptum-de-ma-vie_victor-hugo-copie.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"317\" height=\"423\" srcset=\"https:\/\/great-artmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/post-scriptum-de-ma-vie_victor-hugo-copie.jpg 540w, https:\/\/great-artmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/post-scriptum-de-ma-vie_victor-hugo-copie-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/great-artmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/post-scriptum-de-ma-vie_victor-hugo-copie-315x420.jpg 315w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 317px) 100vw, 317px\" \/>Un dernier po\u00e8me<\/h3>\n<p>L\u2019exposition des Archives nationales \u00e9claire son testament de 1881 sous un jour nouveau. Loin d\u2019\u00eatre une simple formalit\u00e9 administrative, il pr\u00e9cise : \u00ab Je d\u00e9sire \u00eatre port\u00e9 au cimeti\u00e8re dans le corbillard des pauvres \u00bb. On y lit la foi, la r\u00e9volte et la beaut\u00e9 du g\u00e9nie que fut Victor Hugo. Il l\u00e8gue ainsi ses mots comme on l\u00e8gue une \u0153uvre d\u2019art. Il \u00e9crivait \u00e0 la fois pour ses h\u00e9ritiers et pour l\u2019humanit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<h3>La sc\u00e9nographie du legs<\/h3>\n<p>Derri\u00e8re la solennit\u00e9 du testamentaire, c\u2019est bien le Hugo dessinateur qui refait surface. Ses dessins sont eux aussi des testaments d\u2019encre. \u00c0 travers eux, r\u00e9alis\u00e9s principalement durant son exil \u00e0 Guernesey, Victor Hugo se r\u00e9v\u00e8le d\u2019une audace stup\u00e9fiante. Loin de tout acad\u00e9misme, il invente un univers plastique fait d\u2019encre dilu\u00e9e, de taches, de silhouettes spectrales. Il peint parfois avec des allumettes, des bouts de dentelle, son propre doigt. Il laisse le hasard modeler la forme, bien avant que les surr\u00e9alistes n\u2019en fassent un principe.<\/p>\n<h3>R\u00eaves d&#8217;encre<\/h3>\n<p>Ses &#8220;Burgs&#8221;, ces ch\u00e2teaux fantomatiques du Rhin, semblent \u00e9merger d\u2019un r\u00eave gothique. Ses Taches annoncent l\u2019abstraction, ses ombres port\u00e9es traduisent un rapport charnel \u00e0 la nuit. Ce travail du noir et du flou est le miroir d\u2019une pens\u00e9e politique et m\u00e9taphysique. L\u00e0 o\u00f9 le texte d\u00e9nonce la mis\u00e8re, la peine de mort ou l\u2019injustice, le dessin en explore la part d\u2019indicible. Dans <em>Ecce Lex<\/em>, un pendu flotte comme un reproche muet. Dans <em>Mushroom<\/em>, la mati\u00e8re devient brouillard. \u00c0 chaque fois, Victor Hugo transforme le dessin en acte. Il r\u00eave avec l\u2019encre comme il agit avec les mots.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019exposition rappelle ainsi que Victor Hugo fut sans doute l\u2019un des premiers artistes modernes \u00e0 brouiller les fronti\u00e8res entre les arts. Sa pratique du dessin prolonge la qu\u00eate de ses po\u00e8mes. \u00ab Je rends \u00e0 la mer ce que j\u2019ai re\u00e7u d\u2019elle \u00bb, \u00e9crivait-il en parlant de son \u0153uvre posthume. Cette phrase vaut aussi pour son \u0153uvre graphique. Aux Archives nationales, entre le codicille de 1881 et les feuilles noircies de ses dessins, on d\u00e9couvre ainsi un Hugo travers\u00e9 par le d\u00e9sir de faire \u0153uvre du monde.
