Le futur mus\u00e9e Guggenheim Abu Dhabi maintient son inauguration pour d\u00e9cembre 2026 sur l\u2019\u00eele de Saadiyat. Ce projet colossal verra le jour malgr\u00e9 le conflit qui touche l’Iran voisin depuis f\u00e9vrier dernier. Apr\u00e8s vingt ans de patience, ce g\u00e9ant de l’art s’appr\u00eate enfin \u00e0 rejoindre le Louvre Abu Dhabi. Ce complexe devient ainsi le plus vaste espace du r\u00e9seau de la fondation Solomon R. Guggenheim. Cette ouverture marque un tournant majeur pour la diplomatie culturelle des \u00c9mirats arabes unis dans un contexte g\u00e9opolitique complexe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On reconna\u00eet imm\u00e9diatement la signature visuelle de l\u2019architecte canado-am\u00e9ricain Frank Gehry. Ce laur\u00e9at du prix Pritzker reste une figure centrale du d\u00e9constructivisme architectural mondial. Son approche privil\u00e9gie les volumes fragment\u00e9s et les mat\u00e9riaux industriels comme le titane ou l’acier brut. Le Guggenheim Bilbao avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 consacr\u00e9 son talent pour le spectaculaire culturel en 1997. \u00c0 Abu Dhabi, Frank Gehry amplifie radicalement son langage formel sur une surface de 42 000 m\u00b2. Cette dimension \u00e9cologique marque une \u00e9volution notable dans la carri\u00e8re de l’architecte de 96 ans. Le projet repose sur un partenariat \u00e9troit avec la fondation Solomon R. Guggenheim. La direction artistique revient \u00e0 Stephanie Rosenthal, ancienne dirigeante du Gropius Bau \u00e0 Berlin. Elle collabore avec la curatrice Bana Kattan pour assurer l’ancrage r\u00e9gional du programme artistique. Le mus\u00e9e se concentre principalement sur la cr\u00e9ation mondiale des ann\u00e9es 1960 \u00e0 nos jours. Un accent particulier est mis sur les sc\u00e8nes d’Asie de l’Ouest et d’Afrique du Nord. Ce choix refl\u00e8te le d\u00e9placement actuel des centres de production de l’art contemporain.<\/p>\n

L’institution utilise l’art comme un puissant outil d’influence et de soft power r\u00e9gional. Cette strat\u00e9gie permet de d\u00e9centrer les r\u00e9cits historiques domin\u00e9s par les visions occidentales. Abu Dhabi investit massivement pour devenir un p\u00f4le d’attraction majeur pour les collectionneurs mondiaux. Stephanie Rosenthal affirmait r\u00e9cemment sa volont\u00e9 de faire vivre ce b\u00e2timent hors du commun.
