Une vente de plus dans une s\u00e9rie suivie, qui confirme l\u2019ascension continue de ces \u0153uvres sur le march\u00e9 de l&#8217;art. Les c\u00e9ramiques de Picasso s\u2019imposent comme un segment strat\u00e9gique. Les adjudications soutenues traduisent une reconnaissance tardive : la c\u00e9ramique n\u2019est pas une parenth\u00e8se dans l\u2019\u0153uvre de Picasso, mais un chapitre majeur.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h5>Que serait Vallauris sans Pablo Picasso ? \u00c0 l\u2019inverse, Picasso serait-il devenu l\u2019artiste total que l\u2019on conna\u00eet sans Vallauris ? L\u2019histoire qui les lie d\u00e9passe la simple collaboration. Elle rel\u00e8ve d\u2019une transformation r\u00e9ciproque.<\/h5>\n<p>Picasso d\u00e9couvre la c\u00e9ramique tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t. Il a une vingtaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es lorsqu\u2019\u00e0 Paris, son ami Paco Durrio (1868-1940) l\u2019initie \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tude des c\u00e9ramiques de Paul Gauguin. Ensemble, ils explorent les possibilit\u00e9s du modelage. Picasso exp\u00e9rimente, sans m\u00e9thode encore. Les essais restent sporadiques. En 1929, il peint un vase du c\u00e9ramiste n\u00e9erlandais Jean van Dongen. Mais la passion demeure latente. L\u2019occasion surgit apr\u00e8s-guerre. \u00c0 la Lib\u00e9ration, Picasso passe de plus en plus de temps dans le sud de la France. Il s\u00e9journe \u00e0 Antibes en 1946, rend visite \u00e0 Henri Matisse \u00e0 Nice, retrouve la lumi\u00e8re m\u00e9diterran\u00e9enne et une forme d\u2019apaisement personnel. L\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 1946, \u00e0 65 ans, il se rend pour la premi\u00e8re fois \u00e0 Vallauris, village des Alpes-Maritimes r\u00e9put\u00e9 pour ses poteries, entre Cannes et Antibes. Le couple d&#8217;artisans propose \u00e0 Picasso de cr\u00e9er trois pi\u00e8ces en terre cuite. L&#8217;artiste accepte. Picasso red\u00e9couvre la sensation de la terre humide sous les doigts, le poids, la r\u00e9sistance, l\u2019attente de la cuisson. Il esquisse des id\u00e9es sur papier. L\u2019ann\u00e9e suivante, il revient avec un portfolio de croquis d\u00e9bordant. \u00c0 la sortie du four, lorsqu\u2019il d\u00e9couvre le rendu spectaculaire des premi\u00e8res pi\u00e8ces, le coup de foudre est total. En 1948, il s\u2019installe \u00e0 Vallauris, Madoura devient son laboratoire. Picasso travaille d\u2019abord avec Suzanne Rami\u00e9, le tourneur Jules Agard est mis \u00e0 sa disposition. Puis avec Jean Rami\u00e9 pour les \u00e9ditions. Le fils Rami\u00e9, Jean, joue alors un r\u00f4le central dans la production des tirages. Tout le monde passe \u00e0 Vallauris : artistes, marchands, intellectuels. Le village devient un \u00e9picentre de l&#8217;art moderne.<\/p>\n<p>Picasso ne consid\u00e8re pas ces \u0153uvres comme mineures. Bien au contraire. Il en r\u00e9\u00e9dite 633 avec l\u2019atelier Madoura, fixe lui-m\u00eame le nombre de tirages, appose la mention \u00ab Edition Picasso Madoura \u00bb, veille aux signatures, dates et num\u00e9rotations. Il assume avec amusement et provocation leur usage quotidien. \u00c0 Andr\u00e9 Malraux, il \u00e9crit :<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00ab J\u2019ai fait des assiettes, on peut manger dedans. \u00bb<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Entre 1947 et 1971, le ma\u00eetre du cubisme r\u00e9alise plus de 3 500 pi\u00e8ces. Il transforme des plats en visages, des pichets en chouettes ou t\u00eates, des cruches en figures f\u00e9minines. Il travaille m\u00eame les rebuts de l\u2019atelier, ces fragments d\u2019argile d\u00e9laiss\u00e9s. Suzanne Rami\u00e9 lui transmet les secrets de l\u2019\u00e9mail et de la cuisson. Picasso exp\u00e9rimente sans rel\u00e2che : gravure dans la terre fra\u00eeche, engobes peints, oxydes vibrants. La lumi\u00e8re m\u00e9diterran\u00e9enne irrigue ses formes. En 1953, il rencontre \u00e0 Vallauris Jacqueline Roque, celle qui deviendra sa derni\u00e8re \u00e9pouse. Charm\u00e9 par la jeune femme de 27 ans, il lui apporte une rose chaque jour, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce qu\u2019elle accepte finalement de devenir sa compagne. L\u2019esth\u00e9tique \u00e9volue. Les pots chypriotes l\u2019inspirent : il les pare de visages f\u00e9minins. Les corridas envahissent les surfaces. Il puise dans la tradition hispano-mauresque et dans les souvenirs d\u2019enfance. Haut de 13 cm, l\u2019objet concentre toute l\u2019invention plastique de Picasso \u00e0 Vallauris : la panse devient visage, l\u2019anse figure un profil, le bec verseur prolonge la coiffure. Sur une face, un masque sombre aux yeux largement ouverts ; sur l\u2019autre, un visage clair, presque enfantin, souriant. Le contraste noir et blanc radicalise la simplification formelle. Picasso joue du volume comme d\u2019une toile en trois dimensions, exploitant la courbe du pichet pour faire basculer l\u2019expression d\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019autre. Cette m\u00eame d\u00e9cennie, il pr\u00e9pare la grande s\u00e9rie des <em>M\u00e9nines<\/em> d\u2019apr\u00e8s Diego Vel\u00e1zquez (1957). Les ventes successives des c\u00e9ramiques de Pablo Picasso chez <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tajan.com\/v1\/auction-catalog\/succession-de-monsieur-d-collection-dart-moderne-_6SPXW4MHU1?pageNum=1&amp;displayNum=120\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tajan<\/a> en t\u00e9moignent : les collectionneurs recherchent autant les pi\u00e8ces uniques que les \u00e9ditions Madoura. Le march\u00e9 des c\u00e9ramiques de Picasso b\u00e9n\u00e9ficie d&#8217;une double dynamique : la raret\u00e9 de certaines pi\u00e8ces comme les carreaux peints \u00e0 la main et la d\u00e9sirabilit\u00e9 des \u00e9ditions Madoura, qui permettent \u00e0 de nouveaux collectionneurs d&#8217;entrer sur le march\u00e9 avec des budgets vari\u00e9s, allant de quelques milliers \u00e0 plus de cent mille euros. <em>Le Pichet boule Taureau<\/em> (1957) a \u00e9t\u00e9 acquis pour 108 000 euros chez Tajan en 2021. Et, \u00e0 titre d&#8217;exemple, <em>Le Joueur de diaule<\/em> (1961), cette peinture sur carreau de c\u00e9ramique repr\u00e9sentant un musicien, estim\u00e9e initialement entre 15 000 \u20ac et 20 000 \u20ac, a pulv\u00e9ris\u00e9 les pr\u00e9visions pour \u00eatre adjug\u00e9e \u00e0 62 228 \u20ac (frais inclus) lors de la vente du 25 f\u00e9vrier 2026.
