Photo : Edward Quinn<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>N\u00e9 \u00e0 Dublin en 1909, chass\u00e9 de chez lui \u00e0 16 ans par un p\u00e8re militaire en raison de son homosexualit\u00e9, Francis Bacon construit son \u0153uvre dans une forme d\u2019exil permanent. Berlin, Paris, puis Londres : ses d\u00e9placements fa\u00e7onnent une vision du monde instable. Une vision marqu\u00e9e par la violence des rapports humains. Tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t, le peintre d\u00e9truit ses propres toiles, refusant toute facilit\u00e9. Sa vie est travers\u00e9e d\u2019exc\u00e8s et de drames dont la mort de son ami George Dyer. La peinture devient la chair d\u2019une v\u00e9rit\u00e9 brute. \u00c0 sa mort en 1992, Francis Bacon s\u2019impose comme une figure majeure, capable de r\u00e9inventer la figuration \u00e0 rebours de toute narration.<\/p>\n<h3>Trois toiles qui r\u00e9sument le corpus tortur\u00e9 de Francis Bacon<\/h3>\n<p>Les \u0153uvres des ann\u00e9es 80 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es \u00e0 la galerie Gagosian, rue de Castiglione \u00e0 Paris, prolongent une recherche amorc\u00e9e d\u00e8s les ann\u00e9es 1950, notamment avec la s\u00e9rie des <em>Man in Blue<\/em>. Dans <em>Man in Blue VII<\/em> (1954), expos\u00e9 \u00e0 la Biennale de Venise, Francis Bacon enferme d\u00e9j\u00e0 une silhouette masculine dans une cage spatiale, sur fond sombre oscillant entre bleu et noir. Cette figure anonyme inspir\u00e9e d\u2019un homme d\u2019affaires crois\u00e9 dans un bar incarne une solitude moderne, presque clinique. Le d\u00e9cor est r\u00e9duit \u00e0 une armature verticale, l\u2019espace devient une contrainte. L\u2019espace est frontal, th\u00e9\u00e2tral, souvent vide, mais charg\u00e9 d\u2019une tension invisible.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00abJe veux donner la sensation sans le proc\u00e9d\u00e9 de la sensation.\u00bb Francis Bacon<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Gilles Deleuze d\u00e9crivait cette peinture comme une mani\u00e8re de rendre visibles les forces. Dans <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.francis-bacon.com\/artworks\/paintings\/study-human-body-figure-movement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Study from the Human Body\u2014Figure in Movement<\/a><\/em> (1982), le corps semble suspendu dans une bo\u00eete transparente, pris dans un jeu de reflets instables inspir\u00e9s des d\u00e9compositions de Eadweard Muybridge. L\u2019espace fragmente, d\u00e9double, d\u00e9soriente.<\/p>\n<p>Dans <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.francis-bacon.com\/artworks\/paintings\/man-washbasin-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Man at a Washbasin<\/a><\/em> (1989-1990), l\u2019espace se referme. La sc\u00e8ne devient presque \u00e9touffante. Le corps vo\u00fbt\u00e9, proche des figures sculpt\u00e9es par Auguste Rodin, semble absorb\u00e9 dans une architecture minimale.
