Dans la r\u00e9gion du pays d’Auge, en Normandie, le Ch\u00e2teau de Boutemont enrichit ses jardins d\u2019un “labyrinthe de m\u00e9ditation”. Inspir\u00e9 des trac\u00e9s ancestraux, notamment celui de la Cath\u00e9drale de Chartres, ce parcours invite \u00e0 une d\u00e9ambulation int\u00e9rieure autant qu\u2019\u00e0 une exp\u00e9rience sensorielle.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Un labyrinthe de m\u00e9ditation en Normandie : une exp\u00e9rience sensorielle unique<\/h3>\n

Depuis leur acquisition en 2020, Johanna Wistrom-Monnier et Bruno Monnier fa\u00e7onnent leur domaine avec une vision claire : faire du ch\u00e2teau de Boutemont et ses jardins, situ\u00e9 non loin de Lisieux (Calvados), un lieu d\u2019exp\u00e9rience sensible, loin des effets spectaculaires. Elle, d’origine danoise, \u00e0 la t\u00eate de la Fondation Dan Graham et Mieko Meguro Graham est une ancienne figure de la prestigieuse galerie Marian Goodman; lui, est le fondateur de Culturespaces, premier op\u00e9rateur priv\u00e9 d’institutions culturelles et de centres immersifs en Europe. Tous deux ont choisi une approche presque \u00e0 rebours de leurs carri\u00e8res. Ici, pas d\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nementiel envahissant, mais une attention au rythme du lieu et de sa maison-forte \u00e9difi\u00e9e \u00e0 la fin du XIVe si\u00e8cle et class\u00e9e Monument historique depuis 1927.
\nPour cette nouvelle saison 2026, le couple a choisi de proposer au public d’arpenter un “labyrinthe de m\u00e9ditation” qui s\u2019inscrit dans cette philosophie : proposer un chemin, sans imposer de r\u00e9cit.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Toute \u00e9preuve initiatique peut \u00eatre assimil\u00e9e \u00e0 un labyrinthe. \u00bb Mircea Eliade (1959)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Dans la mythologie grecque, le labyrinthe est indissociable de la figure de Th\u00e9s\u00e9e affrontant le Minotaure au c\u0153ur de l’espace con\u00e7u par D\u00e9dale. Pour en sortir, il s\u2019en remet au fil d\u2019Ariane, devenu depuis une m\u00e9taphore fondatrice : celle du chemin int\u00e9rieur qui permet de traverser la complexit\u00e9 sans s\u2019y perdre. Mais le “labyrinthe de m\u00e9ditation” de Boutemont s\u2019inscrit davantage dans la tradition m\u00e9di\u00e9vale que dans celle de la philosophie antique. \u00c0 l\u2019image de celui de la Cath\u00e9drale de Chartres, il propose un trac\u00e9 unicursal, c’est-\u00e0-dire un seul chemin, sans impasse, qui invite \u00e0 une progression lente vers le centre, puis \u00e0 un retour. Ce motif, pr\u00e9sent dans de nombreuses cath\u00e9drales europ\u00e9ennes, \u00e9tait voulu comme un substitut de p\u00e8lerinage, une marche symbolique vers J\u00e9rusalem.<\/p>\n

Le Ch\u00e2teau de Boutemont : une histoire entre Moyen \u00c2ge et renaissance patrimoniale<\/h3>\n

\nL\u2019histoire du domaine remonte \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque de Guillaume le Conqu\u00e9rant (1027-1087), lorsque le sire de Boutemont \u00e9rige une premi\u00e8re forteresse en bois sur une motte f\u00e9odale, afin de surveiller la navigation sur la Touques, le fleuve voisin. Un logis seigneurial s\u2019implante ensuite \u00e0 proximit\u00e9. D\u00e9vast\u00e9 \u00e0 la R\u00e9volution fran\u00e7aise, le ch\u00e2teau sombre dans l\u2019abandon avant de rena\u00eetre au d\u00e9but du XXe si\u00e8cle. Une all\u00e9e majestueuse bord\u00e9e de c\u00e8dres centenaires m\u00e8ne aujourd\u2019hui encore au pont-levis, rappelant cette stratification d\u2019\u00e9poques.<\/p>\n

C\u2019est au XXe si\u00e8cle qu\u2019intervient le paysagiste Achille Duch\u00eane (1866-1947), auteur de pr\u00e8s de six mille jardins. Form\u00e9 dans la tradition classique fran\u00e7aise, h\u00e9ritier d’Andr\u00e9 Le N\u00f4tre, Achille Duch\u00eane modernise le jardin \u00e0 la fran\u00e7aise en l\u2019adaptant aux grandes propri\u00e9t\u00e9s priv\u00e9es du tournant du XXe si\u00e8cle. \u00c0 Boutemont, son intervention structure durablement le paysage : rigueur des axes, ma\u00eetrise des perspectives, dialogue constant entre architecture et v\u00e9g\u00e9tal.<\/p>\n

\"\"Le parcours de visite embrasse l\u2019ensemble du domaine. Le public d\u00e9couvre d\u2019abord la poterne et le pont-levis, vestiges d\u00e9fensifs marquant l\u2019entr\u00e9e du site, avant d\u2019acc\u00e9der aux trois salles historiques du ch\u00e2teau. \u00c0 l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur, la promenade se d\u00e9ploie dans les jardins th\u00e9matiques (blanc, pourpre, italien, des ginkgos, de l\u2019amour). Le parcours inclut le labyrinthe de m\u00e9ditation. Enfin, la visite se prolonge dans l\u2019ancienne orangerie : une cr\u00eaperie o\u00f9 l\u2019on d\u00e9guste un savoureux feuillet\u00e9 de cr\u00eapes, accompagn\u00e9 d\u2019un cidre fermier brut aux notes fra\u00eeches et l\u00e9g\u00e8rement acidul\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

Dans un contexte o\u00f9 nombre de domaines historiques accueillent des sculptures monumentales ou des installations contemporaines, les propri\u00e9taires du Ch\u00e2teau de Boutemont fait un choix radical : celui de l\u2019absence. Aucun parcours d\u2019art, aucune \u0153uvre install\u00e9e dans le parc, malgr\u00e9 la fine connaissance du couple de la sc\u00e8ne contemporaine. On imagine ais\u00e9ment des interventions de Giuseppe Penone, Dan Graham ou Andy Goldsworthy dans cet \u00e9crin de nature. Mais ici, le geste est inverse. \u00ab L\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019art, c\u2019est la nature \u00bb, affirme Johanna Wistrom-Monnier. Une position assum\u00e9e, presque manifeste, qui redonne au paysage son autonomie et au visiteur sa capacit\u00e9 d\u2019attention.<\/p>\n
