Le magazine Modern Photography publie un article technique sur le d\u00e9veloppement des pellicules couleur. Pour l&#8217;illustrer, une page centrale montre de d\u00e9licats hibiscus flottant sur l&#8217;eau. Henry Geldzahler, conservateur au Metropolitan Museum, rep\u00e8re la page. Il montre la photo \u00e0 son ami Andy Warhol. Le peintre cherche une rupture apr\u00e8s ses s\u00e9ries sombres sur les accidents de voiture. Andy Warhol est fascin\u00e9 par la puret\u00e9 de la forme. L&#8217;artiste recadre le clich\u00e9 en format carr\u00e9. Il ne garde que quatre fleurs sur les sept d&#8217;origine. La m\u00e9tamorphose commence.<\/p>\n<h3>La Factory passe \u00e0 la cha\u00eene<\/h3>\n<p>Dans l&#8217;effervescence de la Factory, le processus s&#8217;acc\u00e9l\u00e8re. Andy Warhol utilise la technique de la s\u00e9rigraphie. Ses assistants, dont le jeune Gerard Malanga, s&#8217;activent sur les toiles. L&#8217;artiste pousse les contrastes \u00e0 l&#8217;extr\u00eame. Les hibiscus perdent leurs d\u00e9tails r\u00e9alistes pour devenir des silhouettes graphiques. Andy Warhol applique des teintes acryliques vibrantes et des encres fluorescentes Day-Glo. Les variations deviennent infinies. Des fleurs rouges, jaunes ou bleues \u00e9clatent sur un fond d&#8217;herbe sombre et graphique. L&#8217;exposition de novembre 1964 \u00e0 la galerie Leo Castelli est un triomphe imm\u00e9diat. Tout le stock s&#8217;arrache. Warhol a transform\u00e9 la nature en produit de consommation de masse.<\/p>\n<h3>Le proc\u00e8s qui changea le Pop Art<\/h3>\n<p>Le succ\u00e8s populaire cache pourtant un s\u00e9isme juridique. En 1966, visitant la galerie, Patricia Caulfield d\u00e9couvre ses propres hibiscus qu&#8217;elle a photographi\u00e9 dans un jardin de la Barbade. Elle n&#8217;a jamais donn\u00e9 son accord. Patricia Caulfield attaque Andy Warhol en justice pour violation des droits d&#8217;auteur. Le monde de l&#8217;art tremble. C\u2019est le premier grand proc\u00e8s sur la question de l&#8217;appropriation et du d\u00e9tournement d&#8217;images. Warhol tente d&#8217;abord de n\u00e9gocier en offrant des \u0153uvres. Face au refus de la photographe, un accord financier secret est finalement sign\u00e9 hors tribunal. Patricia Caulfield obtient des redevances et un pourcentage sur les ventes.
