C\u2019est la question centrale de l&#8217;exposition \u00e9v\u00e9nement du Centre Pompidou \u00e0 Paris. En r\u00e9unissant plus de 120 sculptures majeures, cette r\u00e9trospective exceptionnelle met en lumi\u00e8re le g\u00e9nie novateur d&#8217;un artiste qui a su \u00e9purer les formes pour capter l\u2019essence du r\u00e9el. Du 27 mars au 1er juillet 2024.<\/b><\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"5\">Une r\u00e9trospective historique au Centre Pompidou<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">Le Centre Pompidou d\u00e9die une r\u00e9trospective magistrale \u00e0 Constantin Brancusi. La derni\u00e8re exposition d&#8217;une telle ampleur remontait \u00e0 1995. Pour cette occasion unique, la commissaire Ariane Coulondre a imagin\u00e9 un parcours fluide et \u00e9pur\u00e9. Les visiteurs d\u00e9couvrent ainsi une sc\u00e9nographie en courbes \u00e9l\u00e9gantes au sixi\u00e8me \u00e9tage du monument. De plus, l&#8217;institution s&#8217;appuie sur ses propres fonds d&#8217;une richesse in\u00e9gal\u00e9e. Elle compl\u00e8te ce parcours gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des pr\u00eats prestigieux issus des plus grands mus\u00e9es internationaux, comme le MoMA de New York.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"9\">Le g\u00e9nie novateur de Brancusi : de la figuration \u00e0 l&#8217;essence absolue<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10,0\">Qu&#8217;est-ce qui caract\u00e9rise le style de Brancusi ? Le style de Constantin Brancusi se d\u00e9finit par la recherche absolue de la puret\u00e9. Contrairement \u00e0 ses contemporains, le sculpteur roumain refuse de copier la nature. Il pr\u00e9f\u00e8re sculpter l&#8217;essence invisible des choses \u00e0 travers des formes g\u00e9om\u00e9triques radicales et des s\u00e9ries th\u00e9matiques. Au d\u00e9but de sa carri\u00e8re, le jeune artiste arrive \u00e0 Paris en 1905. Il int\u00e8gre rapidement l\u2019atelier du c\u00e9l\u00e8bre Auguste Rodin. Cependant, Brancusi choisit de partir apr\u00e8s seulement un mois. Selon sa formule c\u00e9l\u00e8bre, rien ne pousse \u00e0 l\u2019ombre des grands arbres. D\u00e8s lors, son travail prend un virage radical vers une abstraction philosophique. Par cons\u00e9quent, son \u0153uvre rompt d\u00e9finitivement avec le classicisme. Par exemple, sa s\u00e9rie des <i data-path-to-node=\"12\" data-index-in-node=\"94\">Torse de jeune homme<\/i> r\u00e9sume le corps \u00e0 trois cylindres parfaits. Plus tard, sa c\u00e9l\u00e8bre et audacieuse <i data-path-to-node=\"12\" data-index-in-node=\"195\">Princesse X<\/i> suscite le scandale au Salon des Ind\u00e9pendants en 1920. \u00c0 travers ces cr\u00e9ations, le cr\u00e9ateur prouve son audace stylistique unique.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"14\">L&#8217;art de la s\u00e9rie et la m\u00e9tamorphose des formes<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\">Par ailleurs, le g\u00e9nie novateur de Brancusi s&#8217;exprime pleinement \u00e0 travers sa m\u00e9thode de travail. L&#8217;artiste fonctionne principalement par s\u00e9ries. Ainsi, il s\u00e9lectionne une forme simple, puis il la d\u00e9cline durant plusieurs d\u00e9cennies. Il utilise pour cela diff\u00e9rents mat\u00e9riaux comme le marbre, le bronze poli ou le bois. D&#8217;abord, le visage en trois dimensions nomm\u00e9 <i data-path-to-node=\"16,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"45\">Le Sommeil<\/i> devient <i data-path-to-node=\"16,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"64\">La Muse endormie<\/i>. Ensuite, la <i data-path-to-node=\"16,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"12\">T\u00eate d\u2019enfant<\/i> se m\u00e9tamorphose progressivement en un <i data-path-to-node=\"16,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"64\">Nouveau-N\u00e9<\/i> parfaitement ovo\u00efde. Enfin, les visages de ses proches, comme Nancy Cunard, deviennent des formes \u00e9pur\u00e9es et interchangeables. Ce processus cr\u00e9atif montre une qu\u00eate spirituelle intense. L&#8217;artiste cherche constamment \u00e0 atteindre la forme la plus pure possible.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"19\">Capturer le mouvement : l&#8217;oiseau et le coq<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"20\">De la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re, le sculpteur consacre plus de trente ans \u00e0 sa s\u00e9rie embl\u00e9matique <i data-path-to-node=\"20\" data-index-in-node=\"85\">L\u2019Oiseau dans l\u2019espace<\/i>. L&#8217;exposition parisienne frappe les esprits en r\u00e9unissant une dizaine de ces variantes sur un grand podium face \u00e0 la ville. Au d\u00e9part, ses <i data-path-to-node=\"20\" data-index-in-node=\"247\">Ma\u00efastras<\/i> conservent des traits r\u00e9alistes. Pourtant, Brancusi affine la silhouette jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 obtenir une ligne verticale tendue vers le ciel. Cette \u0153uvre magistrale incarne magnifiquement l\u2019\u00e9lan du vol et l\u2019ascension spirituelle.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"21\">Enfin, la figure du <i data-path-to-node=\"21\" data-index-in-node=\"20\">Coq<\/i> illustre parfaitement cette recherche du mouvement. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une d\u00e9coupe g\u00e9om\u00e9trique en dents de scie, le g\u00e9nie novateur \u00e9voque la cr\u00eate et le chant de l&#8217;animal. Qu&#8217;il s&#8217;agisse de versions en bois de cerisier ou en bronze \u00e9clatant, Brancusi r\u00e9invente notre perception du vivant.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"23\">L&#8217;atelier de l&#8217;impasse Ronsin : le c\u0153ur de l&#8217;\u0153uvre<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"24\">Le parcours gravite autour d&#8217;un lieu mythique : l&#8217;atelier de l&#8217;impasse Ronsin dans le 15e arrondissement de Paris. Brancusi a occup\u00e9 cet espace parisien de 1916 \u00e0 1957. Avant sa mort, le sculpteur a l\u00e9gu\u00e9 tout son contenu \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9tat fran\u00e7ais. En raison des futurs travaux de r\u00e9novation du Centre Pompidou, cet atelier a \u00e9t\u00e9 temporairement vid\u00e9. Les \u0153uvres sont donc r\u00e9parties de fa\u00e7on chronologique dans l&#8217;exposition. Ce choix unique permet de comprendre comment l&#8217;artiste pensait l&#8217;espace.
