Est-ce qu&#8217;Internet conforte les individus dans leurs opinions ? C&#8217;est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment ce n\u0153ud technologique et sociologique que l&#8217;exposition de la Fondation groupe EDF, intitul\u00e9e <i data-path-to-node=\"3\" data-index-in-node=\"572\">Moi et les autres<\/i>, propose de diss\u00e9quer \u00e0 travers le regard d&#8217;une vingtaine d&#8217;artistes. Jusqu&#8217;au 27 septembre 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"4\">L&#8217;angoisse du miroir d\u00e9formant et de l&#8217;entre-soi num\u00e9rique<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\">Le c\u0153ur de cette anxi\u00e9t\u00e9 collective repose d&#8217;abord sur le ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne des chambres d&#8217;\u00e9cho. Le public redoute une uniformisation des cercles relationnels o\u00f9 l&#8217;alt\u00e9rit\u00e9 s&#8217;efface au profit du m\u00eame. Comme le souligne Camille Roth, chercheur en sciences informatiques au CNRS, enseignant-chercheur en sociologie \u00e0 l\u2019EHESS et commissaire scientifique de l\u2019exposition, cette crainte s&#8217;articule autour du fait que \u00ab nous nous entourions d\u2019alters (d\u2019autres) qui sont en fait d\u2019autres soi-m\u00eames \u00bb. Selon cette perspective, le r\u00e9seau ne deviendrait qu&#8217;un miroir d\u00e9formant, car \u00ab l\u2019\u00e9cho signifie que nous n\u2019entendons autour de nous que les choses que nous pourrions dire nous-m\u00eames \u00bb.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"6\">La m\u00e9canique invisible des plateformes sous surveillance<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">\u00c0 cette homophilie sociale s&#8217;ajoute la m\u00e9canique invisible des plateformes, accus\u00e9e d&#8217;industrialiser cet isolement intellectuel. La pr\u00e9pond\u00e9rance progressive des dispositifs algorithmiques est point\u00e9e du doigt pour sa tendance \u00e0 anticiper et restreindre nos horizons culturels. Camille Roth rappelle la logique de ce second sujet d&#8217;inqui\u00e9tude en expliquant que, \u00ab puisque les algorithmes nous connaissent bien et ont pour mission de faire des recommandations pertinentes bas\u00e9es sur nos usages, ils vont m\u00e9caniquement nous recommander des choses similaires \u00bb. Pour les d\u00e9tracteurs des g\u00e9ants du Web, le verdict est sans appel : un tel syst\u00e8me conduirait \u00e0 \u00ab nous enfermer dans notre bulle \u00bb.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"8\">Ce que disent vraiment les donn\u00e9es : le d\u00e9menti de la science<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">Pourtant, face \u00e0 ce d\u00e9terminisme technologique tr\u00e8s sombre, la recherche scientifique apporte des nuances qui bousculent les id\u00e9es re\u00e7ues. S&#8217;il reconna\u00eet qu&#8217;\u00ab il est sain et l\u00e9gitime de s\u2019inqui\u00e9ter, surtout face \u00e0 des acteurs priv\u00e9s dont la gestion de l\u2019algorithme reste tout \u00e0 fait opaque \u00bb, Camille Roth invite \u00e0 d\u00e9passer les simples intuitions pour observer les donn\u00e9es r\u00e9elles. Contre toute attente, le bilan d&#8217;une d\u00e9cennie de litt\u00e9rature et d&#8217;\u00e9tudes empiriques men\u00e9es \u00e0 travers le monde ne valide pas la th\u00e8se d&#8217;un emprisonnement num\u00e9rique g\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9. Le chercheur affirme qu&#8217;il est d\u00e9sormais \u00ab difficile d\u2019affirmer que ce sont les algorithmes de recommandation qui confinent davantage les gens \u00bb.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"10\">Le paradoxe de la s\u00e9rendipit\u00e9 algorithmique<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\">L&#8217;analyse des usages computationnels r\u00e9v\u00e8le au contraire une r\u00e9alit\u00e9 bien plus complexe et paradoxale que le discours critique ambiant. Loin de r\u00e9tr\u00e9cir le champ de vision des internautes, les outils de suggestion automatique agiraient parfois comme des vecteurs d&#8217;ouverture fortuite. C&#8217;est l&#8217;un des enseignements majeurs que tente de transmettre le parcours scientifique de l&#8217;exposition : \u00ab Souvent, et c\u2019est devenu une observation contre-intuitive, les algorithmes ont m\u00eame tendance \u00e0 exposer les utilisateurs \u00e0 plus de diversit\u00e9 \u00bb.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"12\">Introduire de la rationalit\u00e9 dans le proc\u00e8s du virtuel<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13\">L&#8217;objectif de ce travail n&#8217;est pas d&#8217;exon\u00e9rer les plateformes de leurs responsabilit\u00e9s, mais d&#8217;introduire de la rationalit\u00e9 l\u00e0 o\u00f9 dominent parfois les postures dogmatiques. En contrepoint des discours alarmistes, la d\u00e9marche scientifique cherche avant tout \u00e0 \u00ab se pencher sur les aspects optimistes \u00bb de la sociabilit\u00e9 en ligne.
